How to Download TikTok and Douyin Videos on a Mac — and Why the Link Sometimes Fails

A Douyin share link bounces twice before it lands:

The site doesn't want your account — it wants cookies such as __ac_nonce, __ac_signature and s_v_web_id, which are produced by executing the page's JavaScript. curl, wget and any downloader without a browser engine simply cannot invent them.

Upside: free and scriptable. Rough edges: needs Homebrew; browser cookies expire, so you'll reopen the page every so often; macOS will prompt for permission the first time a tool reads that cookie store.
About watermarks — straight answer
The file the web player hands out normally carries the platform watermark. Every "watermark remover" is doing post-processing: cropping the frame, or hunting for a clean source URL. Is downloading TikTok videos legal?
The tool itself is legal. The video, however, belongs to its creator: keeping a copy for yourself is not the same as re-uploading, remixing or using it commercially — those need the creator's permission, and platform terms still apply.
Do I need to log in to my account?
No. Public videos only need a set of browser anti-bot cookies, not account credentials — yt-dlp's own error message says it plainly: not necessarily logged in.
Can I download every video from one creator?
